WHAT IS POLLARDING?

Pollarding is method of pruning a tree wherein all of the trees upper branches are removed.

There are many reasons why a tree may be pollarded:

To maintain a certain height upon trees that require to be kept to a certain size
To lower wind resistance and help prevent ongoing damage and dangers caused by weather
To promote new, denser and healthier growth in place of the original branches
To prevent local birds from nesting within the boundaries of construction sites near or around natural conservation area
